$300 Million Philanthropic Initiative Recreates a Canadian Community.
Marketing the Tomorrow Campaign
Contrary to what many Americans believe, Canada is not just like America. While Americans talk diversity, Canadians live it. In Toronto, Canada's largest city, they have found a way to celebrate and accommodate diversity. Toronto is a true ethnic quilt where the different communities' cultures and flavors are not generally overcooked into a stewed mélange, dissipating into an unrecognizable, fragmented blend. They remain robust and textured finding a comfortable and supportive sense of expression upon the Canadian soil from which they flourish.
This national dynamic provides a very different background than America, when the most influential nonprofit of one of Toronto's ethnic communities-----in this case its Jewish one----appeals to its constituencies, through a $300 million mega donor campaign, seeking individual philanthropic gifts of $1 million dollars or more.
Passion Marketing has been the marketing partner of UJA-Federation of Toronto's Tomorrow Campaign since its inception. Through our deep partnership, we have gained much expertise about marketing to mega donors. We have seen not only the success of this capital initiative, but how its influence has seeped into other areas. In five years it has helped double the community's annual campaign to $60 million and raised its endowment from $23 million to $210 million.
Recently, Passion Marketing President, Gary Wexler wrote an in-depth article exploring the issues of this $300 million dollar initiative. The article first ran on the website of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA). From there it was picked up by numerous newspapers, including the Jerusalem Post, eventually making its way to the acclaimed website of the Huffington Post, read weekly by 2.5 million people.
